The program is called Virgle
From the Virgle site:
For thousands of years,
the human race has spread out across the Earth, scaling mountains and plying the oceans, planting crops and building highways, raising skyscrapers and atmospheric CO2 levels, and observing, with tremendous and unflagging enthusiasm, the Biblical injunction to be fruitful and multiply across our world's every last nook, cranny and subdivision.
An invitation.
Earth has issues, and it's time humanity got started on a Plan B. So, starting in 2014, Virgin founder Richard Branson and Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin will be leading hundreds of users on one of the grandest adventures in human history: Project Virgle, the first permanent human colony on Mars.

What do the billionaires and scientists know that we don't? Is a giant asteroid going to wipe out life as we know it in the next 20 years? Is global warming so bad that in 50 years there will be massive food shortages and death?
Recently the Doomsday Vault was also revealed, a vault where seeds of evey known plant are being stored in case of a catastrophe.
I suppose Humans should have a plan B.
Anyone out there want to sign up to go to Mars?
Ok, so Virgle May Be A Hoax
Is it all April Fools?
There's always The Mars Society
